Smoke on the water…  japanese version ;)

Posted by curson on January 24, 2008

This was too great, amazing, incredible and geek in its own (japanese) way not to be posted here too.
Actually, it’s really a nice version of a never too old song, which should be known by anyone pretending to like good music.
Outstanding.

japanese ++ :p

Holy Land

Posted by curson on November 14, 2007

Don’t worry, it’s not going to be a religious post of any sort.

Living alone, in a new city (and not even quite a small one!) is kind of a strange feeling sometime, because as a matter of fact everything you were used to consider as yours is definitely not around you anymore: friends, places, sounds, colors…
But, there’s something that has in fact been following me here, in my migration to this new universe of mine: my music.
It’s, in fact, following me everywhere I go: around London, in my flights, and of course during my (let’s say: boring!) standby days locked at home waiting for a call. Strange to consider it to be something from home, when in fact it’s not in a particular way related to places of my past, well, only a few songs that are actually on my iPod (Asriel) are in fact strictly related to events of my past, most of them are just pieces of music I like.
Anyway, this is not the point, not exactly.
I’ve been in a very bad mood today (it happens, so they say…) and of course as I always do in this case, my music is my refuge, my safe haven where to hide from the rest of the world. It helps, especially when, by chance, I am able to pick up in my 2000 songs database, something that really suites me for the particular mood/moment I am in. Today, it happened.

Holy Land by Angra is probably one of the masterpiece of metal from the 90s, and it’s definitely one of my favourite album ever! Today, it happened to be also the very perfect choice for my actual mood. It’s amazing when you’re just able to find what you need, exactly when you need.
So, what are you waiting for: go get this amazing piece of music, no really, NOW, should be in everyone’s home.
It’s more than sublime on so many levels, that I don’t think I know enough words in english to express it, it must be listened to.

Somehow I turn around and see
My nerves break down inside
Maybe you might know much more than me
So tell me what is right to say

Down the weakness of my soul
Lie the secrets, and I know
There’s something pushing back
Wish my hands could turn to gold
And my heart would break the cold
To give my thoughts some sense […]

Z.I.T.O. - Angra

‘nigth, uh…

Addictions

Posted by curson on November 12, 2006

It’s a strange period here. Well, when exactly is not?
Lately I’m finding myself enjoying some addictions, more than I usually do and more specific to precise and focused things.
Curious.
At least.

While my body let me (painfully) know that it’s still dealing with what I ate in Mombasa 3 days ago (and thus I’m addicted to some minor quantities of pills :p) and I prepare him for Monday 3-days trip to Dominican Republic, I distract myself with some activities that are really sucking occupying my last days. Fully.

  • books: monthly payment has arrived, and so another order from amazon.co.uk has been done. I really don’t know where I am going to put them (my room is out of space…) but I’ll deal with that when they’ll arrive. For the moment, I’m avidly reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Quite nice by now…
  • music: I am listening to Animal I have become by Three Days Grace & Call me when you are sober by Evanescence at least 16 times a day. Each. Probably my sister will kill me soon.
  • games: gTetrinet wasn’t enough. I needed more fire power. Well, not exactly following that statement, I emerged OpenTTD. Don’t know how the original closed-source games was, but believe me, this open-source one rocks. Really a fantastic simulation transportation game. I AM RICH :D

Everything is going fine, expect a “books” review soon. I’m reading pretty interesting things here while I’m abroad (when Discovery Channel, ESPN or HBO don’t tune fine), and if I’ll like them, I’ll let you know.

Hammerfall strike back! 2

Posted by curson on July 30, 2006

I’m sure all of you remember well the last video production of the swedish metal band Hammerfall. I blogged about it some times ago, pointing out how fun was the idea (even if clearly sponsorized by a contact lense brand… but hey, I use them almost every day too :p) of making a metal music video with sport stars of your own country. Last time was with the Swedish Women Curling Team (supporting them just before the Olympic Game), this time is with four athletes.
I must confess I recognized only the adorabole Kajsa Bergqvist, probably the greatest woman high-jumper actually in activity.
Any advice helpful in identifying the other three (I suppose swedish) athletes will be gladly accepted: when speaking about the Swedish Athletics Team I am able only to identify Kajsa and Carolina Kluft, both for obvious reasons :p

Anyway, thank to Pelle who wrote me an email about the new video, and enjoy it:

The host where both the files are is quite fast this time, so I’m not going to host them on my domain for now, if needed, I will.

And now, let’s convert the video for Asriel the iPod ;)

My IPOD needs a name… 4

Posted by curson on July 07, 2006

It’s black, it’s shiny, it’s new, and it’s already here & playing! :D
All it’s missing by now, it’s a name. But I’ll come out with one as soon as possible.

GTKPod seems to be doing its job pretty fine by now, and in a while I’ll see what’s coming out from the uploading of a video file. Eheh, my geeky self is giggling. A lot to discover with this new blinking gadget.

Dream Theater SCORE

Posted by curson on June 25, 2006

Dream Theater’s latest live CD and DVD “SCORE” is currently scheduled for release on Aug 29th 2006 on Rhino Records. (date may vary slightly in different countries)

O M G! Now, tell me how am I supposed to resist until 29th of August to get them?

…that’s what I call a torture!
Wow, I really can’t wait to put my hands on these 3-CD and 2-DVD sets, that’s going to destroy my August salary, but it’s something I was looking for since the coming out of their last work: Octavarium. I don’t think I’ll ever stop thrilling about new DT’s work. They’re just the greatest!
A news that made my day!

Note: I’ll leave tomorrow for Male (Maldives) for my second work-flight. First one went smooth and even if I wasn’t able to blog from Cancun to report it directly, it was a fantastic experience all around.
Don’t tell anyone (:p) but I’m planning to realize a trip_report-project about all my working shifts around the world. I’m quite lazy and inconstant, but there are people around me asking for them and so I’ll do my best!
Stay tuned :p

Hammerfall video

Posted by curson on February 17, 2006

In preparation for the Olymic Games in February, we joined forces with one of Sweden’s brightest hopes for a gold medal: The Women’s Curling Team. They won both the World and the European Championship in 2005, and are now looking to make it a triple with an Olympic victory as well.

(source: hammerfall.net)

Looking around the net, and thanks to Tao, I found the new Hammerfall’s video “Hearts on Fire” recorded with the Swedish Women Curling Team. Let’s say, I’ve not followed Hammerfall around for quite a while (I only have their first two albums: “Glory to the Brave” and “Legacy of Kings“) but they were one of my favourite band of my hard metal period. Not that this period has ever been seriously over yet… but my tastes have evolved in years.

Anyway, I couldn’t resist posting the link to download the video, believe me is very funny and nice… a great idea after all. So go here and watch it. It’s worth it, trust you curson this time.

(If you’re able to read/write Swedish, you can also understand where to leave a Thank you for the one who put the file on-line.)
