Ok, I’m a magazine addicted, we all know that.
Basically I’m able to jump a full meal if I’m out, starving but with just 5£ left and a magazine I like out with the new monthly issue still to be bought: consider it incredible, but I’ll avoid buying a sandwich and I’ll enter WHSmith instead :p
I read a lot of things in various formats: blogs, websites, books, magazines, webzines, fanzines, newsgroups, forums… whatever there’s around with words on/in it, it’s something I like to take a peak at, but while half of the things listed before come free as in beer, books and magazines are expenses that actually have an impact on my daily life. Not a huge one, but I actually restrain myself from visiting amazon too often (at my looking too long and never shortening wishlist makes me sad :p) and I usually cross the street when I come across a Waterstone shop or a WHSmith one… but it’s not always something I can resist. And when this happens, my bank account is not happy!
Anyway, my magazine addiction has a new item to list now. In addition to Scientific American, NewScientist, Airliner World and Prospect Magazine I’ve (finally) given up and I started buying Wired. My geek side is in giggling and enjoying every single word, might as well become my favourite reading of all the time.
The problem is: will I ever be able to get more geekier that I am now? ;)
This was too great, amazing, incredible and geek in its own (japanese) way not to be posted here too.
Actually, it’s really a nice version of a never too old song, which should be known by anyone pretending to like good music.
Outstanding.
It has been a while since the last time I narrated an eXalted campaign/adventure, and that’s a real pity. I love to play RPGs, I love to be a narrator, and I go crazy for eXalted, but sometimes you have to realize you’re doing a job that doesn’t leave you with a lot of free (and programmable in advance) time to play and to do what you love.
Anyway, my dear friend Silvia is a great miniature painter, and after a secret project that lasted for almost 1 year and half, we were able to deliver to my now ex-players (with whom I still play eXalted when I can, but not as a narrator anymore…) their characters miniatures.
Being 27 is fun, even when you don’t have a proper (at least in the common meaning of the term…) birthday to celebrate.
But let’s say it’s even funnier when your neighbour/friends get the right idea for a fantastic gift, and happen to walk through your door hanging a big red box that seems to weight quite a lot. And it’s (finally) definitely amazing when you open it to realize that it’s full of 27 different varieties of beer (in bottle and tin), one for each of the year you’re old.
A great gift indeed, which reminds me of my sister’s one for my 26th birthday, even if this one is definitely huger. What I really need now are some money to buy me a set of proper glasses to taste all that beer… this reminds me I am still without a job ¬_¬
Anyway: good 1st of March and a good non-birthday to everyone out there!
(the picture is even the living proof that the 3.2MP camera of my N73 rocks, and that this mobile even works as a USB mass-storage device under Linux without a flaw. Amazing! But that’s another story.)
It’s a strange period here. Well, when exactly is not?
Lately I’m finding myself enjoying some addictions, more than I usually do and more specific to precise and focused things.
Curious.
At least.
While my body let me (painfully) know that it’s still dealing with what I ate in Mombasa 3 days ago (and thus I’m addicted to some minor quantities of pills :p) and I prepare him for Monday 3-days trip to Dominican Republic, I distract myself with some activities that are really sucking occupying my last days. Fully.
books: monthly payment has arrived, and so another order from amazon.co.uk has been done. I really don’t know where I am going to put them (my room is out of space…) but I’ll deal with that when they’ll arrive. For the moment, I’m avidly reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Quite nice by now…
music: I am listening to Animal I have become by Three Days Grace & Call me when you are sober by Evanescence at least 16 times a day. Each. Probably my sister will kill me soon.
games: gTetrinet wasn’t enough. I needed more fire power. Well, not exactly following that statement, I emerged OpenTTD. Don’t know how the original closed-source games was, but believe me, this open-source one rocks. Really a fantastic simulation transportation game. I AM RICH :D
Everything is going fine, expect a “books” review soon. I’m reading pretty interesting things here while I’m abroad (when Discovery Channel, ESPN or HBO don’t tune fine), and if I’ll like them, I’ll let you know.
Oh god what have I just done.
I’ve failed again… after resisting so many years I’ve done it again: I’ve reinstalled a Tetrinetclient… please help me: the addiction is back!
I’m sure all of you remember well the last video production of the swedish metal band Hammerfall. I blogged about it some times ago, pointing out how fun was the idea (even if clearly sponsorized by a contact lense brand… but hey, I use them almost every day too :p) of making a metal music video with sport stars of your own country. Last time was with the Swedish Women Curling Team (supporting them just before the Olympic Game), this time is with four athletes.
I must confess I recognized only the adorabole Kajsa Bergqvist, probably the greatest woman high-jumper actually in activity.
Any advice helpful in identifying the other three (I suppose swedish) athletes will be gladly accepted: when speaking about the Swedish Athletics Team I am able only to identify Kajsa and Carolina Kluft, both for obvious reasons :p
Anyway, thank to Pelle who wrote me an email about the new video, and enjoy it:
My passion for IRC is quite old. I came on-line for the first time in December 1994 with my 14600 baud modem, and since then I spent a lot of time on the various IRC networks around: IRCnet, QuakeNet, AzzurraNet, DalNET and EFnet.
I’m still on two of them quite in a stable way (EFnet & AzzurraNet) and I really still like the IRC world. It’s not just a matter of old feelings, I really still love it as one of the funniest and most interesting expression of Internet.
Speaking about funny and weird expression IRC-related, I stumbled across this amazing video.
Apparentrly, someone has dedicated a Trance song (ok, that’s not my kind, but I’m very open towards musical genres) to an IRC Bot called Anna. The video is something you have to see, it’s a really a good job, and to geeky to be left unseen!
Here you’ll find the video with english subtitles on Google Video. I’m not sure I found the real home page of the project, but actually the closer thing I found is at http://basshunter.m0o.eu/anna/ ;) (…but apparently I’m not able to see the video correctly from there).
In any case, I’ll host both the .avi and the .mp3 for quite some times here, hoping this is not going to freak out my bandwidth.
Here they are:
As originally posted by Mosnewshere, the Sport Minister of Japan (Mr. Kenji Kosaka), happens to be apologizing for some of his consideration after the Olympic gold medal of Japanese female figure-skater Shizuka Arakawa.
Japan’s sports minister has been forced to apologize for a public gaffe after saying he was very happy to see Russian figure skating star Irina Slutskaya fall at the Turin Winter Olympics, AFP reported.
[…]
“We should not be pleased with others’ misfortune, but I was happy when (Slutskaya) fell. I felt terribly happy, thinking ’This is it!’” Kosaka said, freezing Arakawa’s smile.
So… 1, 2, 3 laugh!
Come on isn’t this a completely normal reaction?
He’s japanese, she’s japanes, she needed Slutskaya to do some mistake to win, and when she did (*sigh*) they were both happy. Would have been just polite not to confess this happiness in public.
The real problem here is that he is a Minister, and in particular the Minister of Sport, and being that he should give a clean and fair image of him even when he stops to be a Minister and become a supporter.
I must admit, I am always a little happy when someone who could beat my favourites do something wrong, I know it’s not fair and outside the Cubertain’s spirit but we’re all human after all, and sometimes is also nice to win more than just participate.
Anyway, I’m glad Mr. Kenji Kosaka decided to give his apologies to the whole sport world, but I feel that in his inner self, he is still a little happy for Slutskaya’s fall :p
And I am not going to blame him for that, that’s sure!
In preparation for the Olymic Games in February, we joined forces with one of Sweden’s brightest hopes for a gold medal: The Women’s Curling Team. They won both the World and the European Championship in 2005, and are now looking to make it a triple with an Olympic victory as well.
Looking around the net, and thanks to Tao, I found the new Hammerfall’s video “Hearts on Fire” recorded with the Swedish Women Curling Team. Let’s say, I’ve not followed Hammerfall around for quite a while (I only have their first two albums: “Glory to the Brave” and “Legacy of Kings“) but they were one of my favourite band of my hard metal period. Not that this period has ever been seriously over yet… but my tastes have evolved in years.
Anyway, I couldn’t resist posting the link to download the video, believe me is very funny and nice… a great idea after all. So go here and watch it. It’s worth it, trust you curson this time.
(If you’re able to read/write Swedish, you can also understand where to leave a Thank you for the one who put the file on-line.)
